The Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmed has apologized for promising to influence the judgment which sentenced Yinusa Dahiru to 26 years imprisonment for rape.
Recall that a Federal High Court, in Yenagoa on Thursday, sentenced the abductor of Eseoghene Rita Oruru, to 26 years in prison.
The culprit had abducted the teenager in 2015, converted her to Islam and impregnated her.
However, a Nigerian who claimed the case was manipulated, had called on Bashir to help upturn the judgment.
He wrote,
“Please Bashir do something about Yunusa Yellow for Allah’s sake, he is wrongly accused and sentenced, the whole matter is manipulated, we need to appeal for him.”
Bashir, who responded in Hausa language said “My brother, I do not have the power to do anything against the judgment of the court, but I will try to contact those whom I think are capable.”
However, after backlash from Nigerians on social media, the presidential aide claimed that he had no knowledge of the case.
He said,
“I commented on the Yunusa Yellow saga earlier, without knowing and understanding the details of the case.
“Eloping or rather, kidnapping a minor and forcing her to marry you shouldn’t be taken lightly. A condemnable act.”

They keep abortion centers open but places of worship closed' Trump says as he orders governors to allow places of worship to reopen immediately
US President Donald Trump has announced that he has ordered governors to open up places of worship opining that is wrong for some state governors to designate 'liquor stores and abortion clinics' as 'essential services' but keep places of worship like churches, mosques and synagogues closed.
Amid the Coronavirus pandemic hat has killed over 95,000 people in the US, Trump on Friday said he is designating all places of worship – including churches, synagogues and mosques – "essential," saying he wants them to "open right now."
Reacting to the move by state governors of keeping "liquor stores and abortion centres" open during during the lockdown while keeping places of worship shuttered, Trump said in the White House briefing room.
It's not right. I'm calling houses of worship essential."
"If there's any question, they're going to have to call me, but they're not going to be successful in that call," Trump said of state leaders.
"The governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important essential places of faith to open right now, for this weekend,"
"If they don't do it, I will override the governors."
"It's not right," ''This move is aimed at correcting this injustice."
"If there's any question, they're going to have to call me, But they are not going to be successful in that call."
"In America, we need more prayer, Not less." Mr Trump said before leaving the briefing room.
Trump appeared in the briefing room to read a short statement announcing he has approved guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help state and local leaders safely allow worship facilities to open back up.
Earlier on Friday Trump spoke more on the subject.
"We want our churches and our places of faith and worship, we want them to open," he said. "But they're going to be opening up very soon. We want our churches open, we want our places of faith, synagogues, we want them open, and that's going to start happening."
"I consider them essential, and that's one of the things we're saying. We're going to make that essential," Mr Trump said. "You know, they have places [deemed] essential that aren't essential. And they open, and yet the churches aren't allowed to open, and the synagogues. And again, places of faith, mosques, places of faith."
A large chunk of Mr Trump's political base is very religious. In the 2016 election, Trump notably took 75 per cent of the white evangelical vote and has invited pastors and preachers during his tenure to lead prayer sessions at the White House.
Former BBNaija housemates, Mercy Eke and Venita Akpofure shade Tacha after she came to Khafi's defence (video)
Big Brother Naija fans have been speculating about a reunion of the season 4 housemates and there has been so much tension and drama behind the scenes even though the said reunion hasn't aired yet.
For starters, Mercy and Tacha's fans have been savagely going at each other on Twitter. Now, the BBNaija Pepper Dem favorites are also throwing shades at each other on Instagram.
It began with Tacha releasing a video to defend her friend and former housemate, Khafi. She addressed the people who call Khafi names such as "gossip" and "two-faced", and questioned if they are saints.
She didn't mention any names but it appears Mercy and Venita saw it as a sub and they reacted with a video of their own.
In an Instagram video released shortly after Tacha's, Mercy and Venita are seen clearly mocking someone though they didn't mention names.
"Where was the energy? Where was the energy?" both women asked in the video as they laughed at what appeared to be an inside joke.
Fans of Mercy and Tacha took to Twitter to react to this video. Some took sides with Tacha and called out Mercy and Venta for calling Khafi a gossip, others asked why Tacha didn't maintain the same energy when Khafi made a post that they believe was directed at Mercy.
Below is a video of Tacha defending Khafi and Mercy's response.
HILARIOUS ADULT JOKES OF THE DAY
1. Why did I get divorced? Well, last week was my birthday. My wife didn't wish me a happy birthday. My parents forgot and so did my kids. I went to work and even my colleagues didn't wish me a happy birthday. As I entered my office, my secretary said, "Happy birthday, boss!" I felt so special. She asked me out for lunch. After lunch, she invited me to her apartment. We went there and she said, "Do you mind if I go into the bedroom for a minute?" "Okay," I said. She came out 5 minutes later with a birthday cake, my wife, my parents, my kids, my friends, & my colleagues all yelling, "SURPRISE!!!" while I was waiting on the sofa... naked.
2. A teacher is teaching a class and she sees that Johnny isn't paying attention, so she asks him, "If there are three ducks sitting on a fence, and you shoot one, how many are left?" Johnny says, "None." The teacher asks, "Why?" Johnny says, "Because the shot scared them all off." The teacher says, "No, two, but I like how you're thinking." Johnny asks the teacher, "If you see three women walking out of an ice cream parlor, one is licking her ice cream, one is sucking her ice cream, and one is biting her ice cream, which one is married?" The teacher says, "The one sucking her ice cream." Johnny says, "No, the one with the wedding ring, but I like how you're thinking!"
3. After picking her son up from school one day, the mother asks him what he did at school. The kid replies, "I had sex with my teacher." As the father hears the news, a huge grin spreads across his face. He walks to his son's room and asks him what happened at school, the son tells him, "I had sex with my teacher." The father tells the boy that he is so proud of him, and he is going to reward him with the bike he has been asking for. On the way to the store, the dad asks his son if he would like to ride his new bike home. His son responds, "No thanks Dad, my butt still hurts."
Pakistan plane crash: Two people pulled out alive from wreck of Airbus A320 that crashed in Karachi after 'both engines failed' (Photos)
At least two people including a bank executive have been pulled alive from the wreckage of an Airbus A320 which crashed after an 'engine failure' in Pakistan on Friday May 22, with 98 people on board.
"Thank you so much. God has been merciful,' Zafar Masood, the President of the Bank of Punjab said, according to officials who spoke to him in hospital after the crash. The other known survivor was named as Muhammad Zubair.
The PIA's Airbus A320 carrying 98 passengers including eight crew, was attempting to land at the city's Jinnah International Airport after flying from Lahore before it crashed into a residential area of Karachi at about 14:30 local time (09:30 GMT).
Pakistan's civil aviation authority said the plane had 91 passengers and a crew of seven.
At least two people aboard survived, according to the country's health department, revising an earlier statement that three were alive. But the other 95 passengers and crew are believed to have died.
Health ministry spokeswoman Meeran Yousuf told Al Jazeera by telephone that 80 people have died, with 48 bodies kept at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi's largest government hospital, and 32 at Civil Hospital Karachi, another major state-run hospital.
Faisal Edhi of the Edhi Welfare Trust said that around 25 to 30 residents whose houses were damaged by the plane have also been taken to the hospital, mostly with burn wounds.
The aircraft wings during the crash landing hit the houses in the residential colony before crashing down.
"At least 25 houses have been damaged in this incident,” Edhi said.
“The first priority is to rescue the people. The main hurdle is narrow streets and presence of ordinary people who gathered at the place after the crash but they have been dispersed,” the minister said.
According to BBC, the plane had attempted one landing but as it went round again lost its engines and issued a mayday call to traffic control.
The pilot reportedly said: 'We are proceeding direct, sir - we have lost engine'.
'Confirm your attempt on belly,' the air traffic controller said, offering a runway.
'Sir, mayday, mayday, mayday, mayday Pakistan 8303,' the pilot said before the transmission ended
A picture shared by plane enthusiasts shows that the aircraft suffered an apparent engine failure shortly before the crash. They claimed the Black scorch marks can be seen beneath each engine and the landing gear is still up.
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) sources said the captain had reported a technical fault before the plane vanished from the radar.

I killed my brother because he was father’s favourite - Murder suspect
The Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT) headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari,
have arrested 20-year-old Ibrahim Abdullahi and 22-year-old Hassan Amadu over the murder of Kadade Abdullahi at Amana Maikasuwa Village in Kaduna State. The 20-year-old cattle rustler and alleged kidnapper was nabbed after operatives of IRT attached to Operation Puff Adder, Kateri Annex, arrested a member of the 5-man gang that killed Kadede. Upon being arrested and quizzed by the police, Ibrahim admitted belonging to a gang that specialised in robbery, kidnapping and cattle rustling. He also confessed to masterminding the robbery and killing of his elder brother because he is his father's favorite. Ibrahim said; “My father is married to four wives and has many children. I don’t know what is special about Kadade that our father wouldn’t ever take care of his other children without rubbing it on our faces that Kadade was special. “I was sent to Arabic school in Kaduna, while only Kadade attended primary and secondary schools. My father said it was not necessary for other of his children to go to school because he wanted every one of us to become farmers. And yet, he was always the first person to insult and call us illiterates, saying we couldn’t speak the English Language. “How can I speak the English Language when my father did not send me to school? I only learned how to cultivate corn and rear cows. I had to get married to convince him that I was old enough to handle responsibilities. “As soon as I got married, my father gave me only 20 cows and two plots of land. The reason I carried out the killing of my blood brother with the help of my gang members was that our father trusted my late brother much more than he trusts me. It is also because of the sum of N1, 700,000, which our father realised from selling his cattle. The money was kept with my brother. "My brother sold some cows and made N1.7million and was making noise about it. My father was also very happy about it and asked him to keep the entire money. . "We expected him to share the money. That day I was so broke and asked my father for money. He started insulting me and asked me to learn to be responsible like Kadade. "I was so bitter and I immediately called a member of our gang, Haruna, and told him about the money in my house. I asked them to come and also make sure that they kill my brother. "Although I now regret my action I thought that his death would make my father allow me to control some of his businesses. My father was devastated but I consoled him that it was Allah’s wish. "In the morning, I went to the bush to meet them and they told me that it was only N300,000 that they found with my brother. I collected N100,000 as my share since I was the one who brought the job.“

Hypertension, diabetes, tuberculosis, others account for 70% COVID -19 deaths - Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire
Dr Osagie Ehanire has said that 70 percent of Nigerians that have died from the novel Coronavirus in the country are persons with hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, HIV, cancer, and tuberculosis.
He stated this during the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID -19 on Thursday, May 21.
According to the Minister, analysis of the number of deaths so far recorded as a result of the virus showed that 70 percent were males while the remaining 30 percent were females.
“The core morbidity of the fatalities we have had to COVID -19, 70% of them have hypertension, or diabetes, and the rest were kidney disease, HIV, cancer, tuberculosis, and other sundry challenges. A finding from the analysis of the death patterns shows 70% to 30% for male and female around that ratio and about 70% fatalities were persons who are 60 years old while a majority of positives were between the ages of 29 and 49; those are the most active ages in life.
A curious finding from the analysis of the deaths shows that nearly half of them died at home. Of those who died at home, about 50% did not show any symptoms. This underscores my earlier emphasis on the need for those who test positive to report for treatment.
I would also advise those who have taken the test and are awaiting results to heed the advisory to self-isolate from friends, wear face masks and observe hand and respiratory hygiene until your result is out so that your community and those around you will not necessarily be exposed.” he said

“COVID-19 is a highly infectious disease responsible for the ongoing global pandemic. In Nigeria, new cases are reported daily and community spread is accelerating. This is the reason why members of ARD are agitated as testing for COVID-19 has remained a challenge in the state.”
SHOCKING!! Benue Covid-19 Index Case Survivor, Susan Idoko Okpe Narrated Her Experience In The Isolation Centre
A 58-year-old Nigerian-British, Susan Idoko-Okpe, who was isolated for 58 days as the index case of coronavirus in Benue State, has narrated her conversation with the Chief Medical Officer of her isolation centre before her release on Wednesday.
Idoko-Okpe, who arrived in Nigeria from the United Kingdom on March 22, had protested that a positive COVID-19 test result, which led to her being taken to the Benue State Isolation Centre in Makurdi on March 27 and subsequently to the National Hospital in Abuja, did not belong to her.
The woman, who spoke in a telephone conversation with a UK-based Nigerian vlogger, Olajumoke Ariyo, stated that she had been accommodated at her friend’s home in an undisclosed location.
In the recorded video in circulation, Okpe revealed that the last test given to her showed that she was still positive for coronavirus.
She, however, said the health officials asked her to go, having met with the requirement of the World Health Organisation.
She promised to reveal more about her ordeal in her “medical detention.”
In the video, Okpe said,
“Hello family and friends, as you can see I’m on my way out of the hospital. I have just been given the test that I am still positive but I can go that I have met the WHO requirement.
“I just did this live video to say I am walking out of my detention and forceful incarceration.
“That is what is happening right now. Thank you all for your support.
“For security reason, I won’t give details of where I am going right now, but I am out of here. So thank you all my fans and supporters. I am packing my bags and baggage to be on the safe side.
“I will be live tomorrow to tell you further on what has happened to me. Right now, I am out of my detention centre.”
She added,
“They (nurses) said I was still positive. I said, ‘Okay, give it (the result) to me.’ I wanted to leave, so I called the CMD. I put the CMD on the line with the nurses. The CMD said, ‘Yes, you have satisfied the WHO (guidelines). You have never been a prisoner. You are free to go home.’
“I said, ‘Thank you very much sir.’ He said, ‘Even though you are sick, you were asymptotic.’ I said, ‘Sir, point of correction, I don’t have any symptoms.’ He said, ‘Yes, I’m just using medical terms.’ I asked, ‘Can I go?’
“I put him on speaker and said, ‘Sir, by the way, you are on speaker.’ The nurses there were listening. So, I packed my things, my friend came and I left in her car. I’m in her house right now.”
Idoko-Okpe, however, refused to disclose her location to anyone, saying she was happy to be alive.

Banker Commits Suicide In Lagos, Leaves Note For His Girlfriend And Dad
A young man identified as Kelvin Rhima has committed suicide at Modinatu Street in Ogba area of Lagos State.
The lifeless body of Kevin who works with a new generation bank was found dangling from a ceiling fan in his mini apartment by neighbours at about 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
It was gathered that neighbours became worried on Tuesday evening when they noticed that Kevin hasn’t been outside since morning. Unfortunately, when they looked through the window, they found his body hanging on the ceiling fan.
Immediately after the discovery, they invited policemen to break into the apartment.
According to a neighbor, Barry Olarenwaju,
“Kelvin was a calm person so we didn’t notice on time. When we didn’t see him outside on Tuesday morning, we felt that was his lifestyle, that he was sleeping inside, but when it was an evening we got worried because there was no padlock at his entrance to indicate that he had gone out.
“When we tried to open the door, it was locked from inside that was when we began to bang on the door. By the time we went to the window, we saw him dangling and his tongue sticking out. From the look of things it was obvious that it was on Monday he died because the body had begun to bloat”.
It was gathered that policemen from Pen-cinema who came to the compound to access the scene saw the suicide note that he wrote and addressed to his father and girlfriend.

Ireland Turns Down Thousands Of Visa Applications From Nigeria
Almost 16,000 people were refused visas to travel to Ireland last year, with almost half of all the applications received from citizens of Nigeria and Yemen declined.
New figures from the Department of Justice show that 153,197 people applied for a visa to come to Ireland in 2019, with 89.6% of those granted.
However, refusal rates vary enormously according to the country of origin, with people from some countries almost certain to be given a visa and other nationalities facing an uphill struggle.
The Department of Justice said the visa process has a crucial role in supporting economic activity in the State, but has to be balanced against maintaining “an effective immigration regime”.
Around 14% of the applications related to business, while 7.5% were planning to attend a conference or similar event.
Just under 5% were taking up a role in employment or as a researcher while 47% — 72,364 people — were just coming for a visit.
The figures show particular difficulties for citizens of some African countries in being allowed to come here.
Last year, there were 7,597 visa applications from Nigeria but just 4,126 of those — or 54.3% — were granted.
A spokesman for the Department of Justice said the visa process was key in supporting tourism, promoting Ireland as a destination for international education, facilitating those coming for business or work, and allowing family members to visit.
He said:
“As with all visa services worldwide, the central concern in deciding on visa applications is to strike an appropriate balance between protecting the country’s vital national interests by maintaining an effective immigration regime while at the same time not placing unnecessary or unreasonable obstacles in the way of intending visitors.”

Messi Is Everyone’s Dream But He Wont Leave Barcelona – Moratti
Former Inter president Massimo Moratti said Lionel Messi will not leave Barcelona, while he also discussed the future of Nerazzurri star Lautaro Martinez.
Messi has been linked to Inter since Moratti said the record six-time Ballon d’Or winner joining the Serie A club was not a “forbidden dream”.
Barca superstar Messi is contracted to the La Liga champions until 2021 but his future is far from certain at Camp Nou, where he has clashed with board members this season as the club has faced several turbulent moments inside the boardroom.
Messi has flourished again this season despite the off-the-field unrest, firing 24 goals in 31 matches for the Catalan side.
With Messi leading the way, Barca currently sit atop La Liga, maintaining a lead over rivals Real Madrid atop the table with the Spanish league suspended due to the coronavirus.
And, while Messi’s future is always a talking point, Moratti expects him to remain with Barca for the foreseeable future.
“Messi is everyone’s dream, but he won’t move from Barcelona. He’s still the best player there is,” Moratti told Gr Parlamento.

‘Man Utd Must Sign Sancho & Give Him No.7’ – Ferdinand Says
Manchester United should be snapping up Jadon Sancho and handing him their No.7 shirt, says Rio Ferdinand, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also urged to move for Kalidou Koulibaly and Saul Niguez.
Movement is expected at Old Trafford in the next transfer window, with the Red Devils boasting money to spend.
Various top targets have been mooted, with added creativity considered to figure prominently on United’s wish list.
Former United defender Ferdinand told Radio 5 Live’s 606 Savage Social podcast when asked who he would be looking to bring in:
“Sancho, Koulibaly and Saul Niguez.
“I think Harry Kane’s been linked but if I’m pushing for an attacking player I’d still go for Sancho, he gives you that little bit of imagination and I think he gives you that little bit of spice that they haven’t got at the moment.”
Ferdinand added:
“Yes, I would [give Sancho No 7], he’s that type of character.
“He’s got an arrogance about him, it’s what you want on a football pitch, they’d embrace that.
“So yes, I’d give it to him and put that pressure right on his shoulders!”

Hazard Admits He Needs More Time To Recover From Ankle Surgery
Eden Hazard has been back in training with his Real Madrid team-mates, but he admits he needs more work before he will be ready to return to match action.
The Belgium international underwent ankle surgery in early March after fracturing his right fibula in a La Liga defeat to Levante.
Hazard travelled to the USA for his surgery, as the ankle injury was similar to the sort of injuries often suffered by NBA players, and it was reported doctors there had more experience of administering such treatment.
La Liga teams have returned to training in groups of 10 this week, with league president Javier Tebas targeting June 12 as the date when the season can be resumed.
“I feel very good to be back on the pitch working with my team-mates,” Hazard told Madrid’s official website after Monday’s session.
“Now we have to wait for the matches to come, but I’m very happy. After two months away I need more physical work and more ball work. I just want to be ready for the next game.
“Now the training is better, we can train the way we like to. The first week was a bit strange, but now we can train again in groups and also attacking the goal.
“We just want to be all together and try to work as a group”.

Liverpool Not Winning Premier League Title Would Be Unfair – Jurgen Klopp Speaks Out
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp says it would be “unfair” to deny his side the Premier League title should the rest of the season be cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Reds hold a 25-point lead over closest rivals Manchester City and are on the cusp of a first top-flight triumph in 30 years.
The Covid-19 outbreak put their title march on pause in March, however, and there were calls for the rest of the season to be scrapped without declaring winners.
On Monday, all 20 Premier League teams agreed to step up their return to training as they hope to start playing again from June 12, though there is no guarantee it will be safe for games to go ahead by then.
And Klopp feels it would have been wrong to bring a premature end to the campaign and deprive Liverpool of the glory.
He said at a talk at the DFB Academy:
“There was talk that people wanted to declare the season null and void. So you thought: ‘Huh? We have played 76 percent of the season and you just want to delete the thing?’
“That would have been something that I personally would find unfair, to just say that it didn’t happen.
“We are first in the home table, we are first in the away table. It is a season in which we should become champions.
“Dealing with the crisis is the most important thing. But that doesn’t mean that certain things are of no importance at all just because they are less important.
“I think there are worse things in life than not becoming champions. A lot of people around us have big problems. People die, it always happens, but at the moment because of a virus that we all didn’t know and for which nobody could be prepared.
“We cannot prepare for everything, but also have to react often. That’s the biggest part of my life, reacting to things that I didn’t expect.”
