Tottenham’s Star, Son Heung-min Wins Premier League Goal Of The Season (Watch Video)

 

Tottenham Hotspur forward, Son Heung-min, has won the Premier League Goal of the Season award for 2019/2020.

Son won the prize for his brilliant solo effort against Burnley in December.

The South Korean carried the ball from his own half and ran 70 yards past four defenders, before slotting past the goalkeeper.

Spurs were already two goals up when Son struck the third in an emphatic 5-0 victory.

His strike beat competition from the likes of Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, to claim the award.

Other names up for the award were Newcastle’s Matty Longstaff for his winner against Man Utd, an acrobatic overhead kick from Brighton’s Alireza Jahanbakhsh.

My Convoy Was Attacked In Oshiomhole’s Ward – Obaseki

 

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, on Thursday said his convoy was attacked at ward 10, Apana, Etsako west local government area of the state.

Adams Oshiomhole, former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is from the ward.

In a statement which Crusoe Osagie, his spokesman, issued on his behalf, Obaseki said the suspected thugs behind the attack were dislodged by a combined team of security personnel and vigilante groups.

The statement said Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor, alighted from his vehicle and chased the attackers.

A female police officer, who was caught recording the footage of the incident, was also said to have been attacked. Addressing members of PDP and supporters at Apana village square, Obaseki alleged that Oshiomhole had made several attempts to scuttle his re-election. He said the forthcoming poll will determine who will take charge of the levers of power in Edo politics. “As we were coming here (Village Square in Apana), you heard what happened. They went to hire thugs and began to shoot to prevent us from coming here. On September 19, 2020, use your permanent voter card (PVC) to ‘pepper them’,” he said. “Ward 10 is a special ward. This election is special. It will show who is in charge of politics in Edo State. For all my eight years in government, you know what I did for Comrade Oshiomhole. He said it with his mouth. I supported him to be the governor. I raised funds for him. I worked for him and Edo State for eight years without receiving a dime.” When contacted, Chidi Nwabuzor, police public relations officer in the state, told TheCable he was not aware of the incident. FG Dumps Plastic ID Cards, Goes Fully Digital

 

Nigeria has moved from national identification and registration of citizens via card-based version to strictly digital, the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, reveal.

Aregbesola said the new direction in citizen identification will include individual DNA samples, adding that the card-based would merely be for convenience.

“The card is just for convenience the real thing is the number you have, with that number you are on the databank, everything about you is there. We are just upgrading it such that your DNA too will be there very soon.

Even if you are in a car, I will know if you are the one in the car with your DNA, it’s already captured. You are already captured, you cannot run away anymore,” he explained.

Explaining further, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Pantami, said the attention of the programme would no longer be cards’ production, but strengthening the digital platform.

“What the chairman is saying now is that we are no more talking about cards, the world has gone digital, so that card is no more. Our priority now is digital ID; it will be attached to your database wherever you are.

So if you can memorize it by heart, wherever you go that central database domiciled with NIMC will be able to provide the number and every of your data will be provided.

Now, our focus is no longer on producing cards, that card is only for record but what is important is that the digital ID and if you notice we have started using the digital ID on international passport. Once you have the digital ID but not the card, we are 100% done with you,” Pantami said.

Bandits Kill 15 In Niger Community

 

Fifteen people have reportedly been killed by gunmen suspected to be bandits in Ukuru village in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to information gathered from the area, those killed were mostly men who were met at a tea joint eating breakfast.

It was said that the gunmen who invaded the village on motorbikes started shooting sporadically and in the process left 15 people, mostly male, dead.

It was, however, observed that the attack could be a reprisal because a few days before the incident, men of the local vigilante had repelled an attack by the bandits and reportedly killed four of them.

A witness said the attackers waited for most of the able-bodied men of the village to go to the farm before launching the attack.

Effort to secure confirmation from the police was not successful as their spokesman, ASP Wasiu Abiodun, did not respond to calls and an SMS to his cell phone.

Officials of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) were also not available for comment as they were said to have gone on an inspection tour of flooded areas in Suleja.

On Thursday, the Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, was reported to have commended the effort of security operatives in the fight against banditry in the Sahel Operation.

Gov. Bello, in a statement, had said life was returning to normal in some hitherto bandits-infected areas because people were now going to their farms and taking part in other businesses.

How Ned Nwoko Humiliated Monarch, Asked Police To Dig Up Palace

 

The last may not have been heard about the drama at Idumuje-Ugboko in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State where a former senator, Ned Nwoko, has been allegedly oppressing residents.

Last month, he ordered the arrest of Chukwunonso Nwoko, monarch of the town, and subsequently asked the police to ransack his palace.

It was gathered that the monarch and some residents of Idumuje-Ugbako had opposed Nwoko’s attempt to forcefully acquire additional 90 hectares of land from an area earmarked for all indigenes of the community.

Heavily armed police officers accompanied by one of Nwoko’s vigilante guards, Okachi Nwa Ejimofor Nwoko, were at the palace to dig up dead bodies buried as falsely claimed by the former senator.

The team, led by the officer-in-charge of homicide in Delta State Police Command, ransacked all rooms in the palace, in search of weapons as alleged by Nwoko but they didn’t find anything. It was gathered that Okachi had received N5million (Five million naira) from Nwoko with instructions to lead the police to the exact spot where dead bodies were buried in the palace. The tradition of Aniocha forbids that the palace and its environment should be used for burying people. This was after the monarch had been abducted by the police and detained at Asaba police cell. The king, who was charged with murder as orchestrated by Nwoko, was later released on the orders of the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa. A source familiar with the police operations said it was Nwoko who informed the police command in Asaba that the palace was heavily loaded with sophisticated weapons of war. “He informed the police to take extra precautions with regards to the operation. Then the police arrive at the palace, heavily armed, to dig up bodies of the dead (which Ned Nwoko claimed was buried at the palace). The police also ransacked every room in the palace, in search of weapons of mass destruction. The search yielded no result. “The team of policemen was led by the officer-in-charge of homicide in Delta State Police Command. A special unit from Abuja was also sent as support for this palace disturbance and intimidation. It included a pathologist and quantities of body bags to preserve its evidence. “After hours of digging, the police got frustrated. They said, ‘Nobody for here. All we dey see na pipes to the soakaway. (If there is anybody buried here, we would see it before the pipe’). “When the police further interrogated Okachi, who was handcuffed throughout the digging, he told them he was confident. “The police left the palace frustrated, without finding anybody or bodies buried at the palace as alleged by Ned Nwoko and his ‘boys’. It signed a consent agreeing that it did not find anybody buried in the palace as alleged by Okachi and as reported by Ned Nwoko,” the source said.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said that he usually feels very bad and uncomfortable going a day without fighting with people.

The Governor also said that it is his duty to raise the Blood Pressure, (BP) of those who do not want to see him.

According to Wike, he enjoys it when his name is being mentioned in Abuja for whatever reasons.

Governor Wike said this when he addressed stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Thursday.

“I’m not one person anybody can threaten. Of course, all of you know that when you threaten me you even worsen the situation because I’ll not agree and I’m not afraid of fighting,” Wike said. “Without a fight, it’s like something is wrong with me so I need it every day. Anytime I stay [a day] and no problem, nobody is calling my name, I feel something is wrong. “So when they go to Abuja and they call my name I feel so happy. It shows that worrying them and it’s my duty to make sure that those who don’t want to see me are worrying every day and their BP will go very high. That’s the job I do now to make people’s BP go very very high.” Governor Wike added, “Let me use this [opportunity] to warn everybody, let nobody distract you; let nobody deceive you. Nobody should attend any meeting anybody calls because they want to run for governorship. “We have never come to that point. I have just stayed one year in office. I’ve not even stayed up to two years. We’re walking for our party to be united to make sure that the APC does not have a little space in our state. “Those of them who think they’re too fast because they promised them a ticket in the party, don’t worry sooner or later you’ll see them run back because where they’re going, there’s no road.”

Two Atletico Madrid players test positive for COVID-19 ahead of Champions League quarterfinal against RB Leipzig on Thursday night

 Spanish side, Atletico Madrid have confirmed that two senior players have tested positive for Coronavirus ahead of the club's Champions League quarterfinal clash against RB Leipzig on Thursday night.

 

"On Saturday 8 August, all members of the first team and the club's traveling party [set to head] to Lisbon underwent PCR tests at the Ciudad Deportiva de Majadahonda as required by UEFA protocol, [in order] to participate in the quarterfinals of the Champions League," the club confirmed in a statement .

 

"Among the results known today, two positives have appeared. Both individuals are isolated in their respective homes, and their results were immediately communicated to the Spanish and Portuguese health authorities, UEFA, the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the Portuguese Federation and the Higher Sports Council.

 

"The corresponding action protocol foreseen for these cases has been activated, which requires new PCR tests to be carried out on the first team and members of the expedition to Lisbon and the closest contacts of the positive cases.

 

"These tests will result in changes to training schedules, and in the structure and development of travel and accommodation in the Portuguese capital.

 

Atletico Madrid are scheduled to face RB Leipzig in the Champions League quarter-finals in Portugal on Thursday, August 13.
