Woman narrates how a stranger allegedly assaulted her when she refused to accept a ride from him

A woman has narrated how refusing the advances of a man led to an altercation that landed her in trouble with the law as police intervened and allegedly took his side.

@naebili said a man in a car offered her a lift but she declined and crossed to the other side of the road to take a bike.

While on the bike, the man's car overtook the bike and suddenly stopped in front of the bike blocking their way. This move almost caused an accident as the bike man nearly crashed into the car.

She claimed the man then accosted her and said: "How can I be talking to you and you'll just walk away like that? That's not how they do things nah. You girls won't know who you're talking to, you'll just be behaving anyhow."

She said she tried to cross over to the other side of the road but the man grabbed the belt loop of her jean trousers, pulled her back, and slapped her.

In anger, she picked up bricks and threw at the man's car.

She said the police arrived at this point and took the man's side. They took them both to the station, demonised her, then asked her to pay for the man's broken window.

Fortunately for her, she made a call to a friend and the friend called a senior police officer who came to her rescue.

She concluded the thread, writing: "I'm tired of living in Nigeria, I'm tired of being a target, I'm tired of being abused /assaulted, I'm tired of men. I just want all of these things to end. I just want to experience a crumb of freedom. I JUST WANT TO EXIST AS A PERSON AND NOT A MOTHER F**KING PREY."

After she shared her thread, Twitter users showed her support and some made calls to her.

She later gave an update that a man took up the alleged assault case and her abuser is sleeping in the cell tonight.

Army didn’t learn from murder of Boko Haram founder - Suswam speaks on killing of wanted militia leader, Gana

Army didn?t learn from murder of Boko Haram founder - Suswam speaks on killing of wanted militia leader, Gana

Former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam has reacted to the killing of Terwase Akwaza a.k.a Gana, said to be the most wanted criminal in the state.

In a statement released on Wednesday September 9, Suswam stated that security operatives are yet to learn their lesson from the crisis triggered by the killing of Mohammed Yusuf, founder of the Boko Haram sect.

The Benue Senator also backed Governor Ortom on his claim of Gana being ambushed while on his way to surrender. He also disclosed that the killing of the militia leader has heightened tension in the area.

Suswam said;

“The lessons of the Boko Haram escalation after a similar murder of its leader are still here with us. If this method is accepted as a norm in our country, there will be no need for laws and courts.

“We stand to benefit more by subjecting suspects to due process of the law. Information extracted from a living Gana would have helped security agents get to the root of activities of criminals.

“By this gestapo style execution, we have missed an opportunity to learn vital lessons about the structure of crime in the area. Even war criminals captured alive are entitled to certain rights.

“I was totally dumbfounded to learn that while Gana was on his way to Makurdi the state capital to present himself to the State Governor who was waiting, his long convoy that included political leaders, Traditional rulers, clergy men and security agencies was ambushed by allegedly armed soldiers and he isolated and taken away.

“In the midst of the confusion, pictures began to circulate on social media of the bullet ridden body of Gana with a rifle callously placed on his side.

“Our joy was multiplied when we saw him along with his militia surrender arms and publicity renounce a life of crime. Our revered king extracted a pledge from him never to turn his kingdom into a wasteland.

“Those present at this forum heaved a great sigh of relief with the thought that finally, a life full of uncertainty has come to and end.

“This is a time to heal and not war. This is a time to hold each other to our common values as human beings. This is a time to rebuild our fractured society. This is a time to rally together as brothers and say Enough is Enough.”

The Ooni of Ife had arrived at the event and was walking to the high table when he stopped by to greet Tinubu.

In a tweet posted this morning, FFK says it was "insulting and shameful" for Tinubu to have refused to stand up to greet the monarch.

''That the Asiwaju of Bourdillon refused to stand up to greet the Ooni of Ife speaks volumes. This was not only deeply insulting to every Ife & indeed son & daughter of Odua but it is also a crying shame. Would a northern pol. leader refuse to stand up for his traditional ruler?''his tweet reads

Edo Commissioner resigns from Governor Obaseki’s cabinet 10 days to election

Edo Commissioner resigns from Governor Obaseki?s cabinet 10 days to election

Edo state commissioner for minerals, oil and gas, Joseph Ikpea on Wednesday September 9 resigned from Governor Godwin Obaseki's cabinet.

The Commissioner who resigned from his position 10 days to the governorship election in the state, cited not being able to abandon the All Progressives Congress (APC) which he helped grow in Esan south local government area as the reason for his resignation.

Ikpea who became the third commissioner to resign from Obaseki's government, said in his resignation letter;

“This is to inform you that I am resigning my present appointment. I want to sincerely thank his Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for the opportunity given to me to serve under his administration as the Commissioner for Minerals, Oil and Gas.

“One of the reasons why I am resigning is that politics is all about interest, trust and respect for one another, but I have never seen anything of this till date, and I am also not sure of it even if there is tomorrow.

“Moreover, the party that’s known today as All Progressive Congress APC, was brought to Esan south LGA by me, and over 90% of my supporters are APC members till date, so it is difficult to leave the house I built. Considering also that this administration did not recognise my leadership role, even as a commissioner I get information either from ward Chairmen, LGA Chairman, or SSA to Mr. Governor.

“I will continue to give his Excellency my support at any time the need arises. I wish you success in all your endeavours.”

Pastor in Delta arrested for allegedly extorting N350k from lady to set her free from the

A pastor in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Emmanuel Mokogwu, has been arrested for allegedly extorting the sum of N350,000 from a woman who he claimed was about to die.

The clergyman who claimed he was ordained at the Winners’ Chapel four years ago, visited the victim, Theresa Okolie, at her home and told her he saw a vision where the spirit of untimely death was hovering around her. The victim claimed the clergyman fraudulently collected N350, 000 from her to be used to cleanse her home of demonic spirit and also pray against the spirit of death.

“I think the pastor used a charm on me because immediately he told me that my house was covered in darkness and harboured the spirit of untimely death, I started running about to gather money for him.

I gave him N350,000 that I kept for my farm and in the process of borrowing the balance from a friend, the police were alerted.” the victim said

'My only addiction is women': Mexican drug lord, El Chapo says as he reveals he fathered twenty-three children

Mexican drug lord, Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán admitted that the only addiction he ever suffered from was 'women' before revealing that he is a father of 23 children.

The revelations were made during a tell-all interview with renowned criminologist Mónica Ramírez Cano before Mexico extradited him to the US.

Ramírez Cano, who posted the video online, said she asked El Chapo 'what are you addictions?' to which the jailed drug lord then replied, 'none, my only addiction are the women.'

She also said El Chapo confessed to fathering 23 children.

The 63-year-old reportedly has been married four times. He first got married in 1977 to Alejandrina María Salazar Hernández, with whom he had four children, including César, Iván Archivaldo, Jesús Alfredo and Alejandrina Giselle.

He then married a bank clerk, Estela Peña, but did not have any children with her.

In the mid-1980s, El Chapo tied the knot for the third time with Griselda López Pérez, the mother of Édgar, Joaquín Jr., Ovidio and Griselda Guadalupe.

His fourth and last marriage came in 2007 when he married beauty queen Emma Coronel, who in August 2011 gave birth to the couple's twin daughters, Maria Joaquina and Emali Guadalupe.

El Chapo, who is serving a life sentence at a supermax penitentiary in Colorado, reportedly made $12.6 billion as the cartel's chief of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Outburst against increased fuel price is understandable but misplaced - NNPC GMD, Mele Kyari

Outburst against increased fuel price is understandable but misplaced - NNPC GMD, Mele Kyari

The Group Marketing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari has condemned the protest that trailed the increment of fuel price across the country.

In an interview with Channels Television, Kyari maintained that the issue of subsidy has been a big issue in the country for many years and government can no longer afford it because of the economic issues facing the country.

The NNPC GMD who expressed hope of subsidy removal paying off in the long run, alleged that only the rich benefits from it and not the poor.

He said;

“The outburst is very understandable but I also believe very strongly that it is misplaced because Nigerians are not aware of the opportunities lost.

“And not only that, every corruption that you are aware of in the downstream industry is one way or the other connected to fuel subsidy.

“It requires courage to make this decision, I can share this with you. Only a Buhari regime can make this decision.

“The subsidy in itself, is by every means an elitist thing and I can share this with you. It is only the elite that will have three, four, five cars in their houses, fill their tanks and also feel comfortable doing this.

“The ordinary man is not the beneficiary. First, he loses in infrastructure, hospitals are not built, schools are not built and ultimately, the brunt of the corruption in the downstream sector will be transferred to the ordinary man. So, overall, you lose everything.

“It is very understandable for people to get angry that prices have gone up. Just like the prices of every commodity, when it goes up, there can be difficulties and challenges that people will naturally face but once prices go up, the other natural thing that must happen is that your income needs to increase so that you are able to procure the things that are now delivered at higher prices.

“You can’t do this anywhere in the world if there is no productivity.

“And there will be no productivity except there is growth in infrastructural development, industries are able to work, therefore, there is a connection between production and consumption. What subsidy does is to remove that connection.

“When people get angry, this is coming from people who, practically are not aware of this situation and they are not aware of the loss that they have and most importantly they are being engineered into making those statements, and we understand this perfectly.

“We are the national oil company, it’s our role to ensure energy security. But you can’t do this until you are able to deliver cost. And that cost is lost daily as prices of crude oil goes up and you are unable to do many things”.

US vs China: US revokes visas for 1,000 Chinese students and researchers

The United States government has revoked visas of more than 1,000 Chinese students and researchers under an order issued by President Donald Trump accusing some of them of espionage and working for the Chinese communist party, the State Department said Wednesday September 9.

As tensions between Beijing and Washington rose on multiple fronts, Trump, in a May 29 proclamation, declared that some Chinese nationals officially in the United States for study have stolen intellectual property and helped modernize China’s military.

The State Department, on Wednesday September 9 for the first time, has now released first figures on the effects of Trump’s order, stating that more than 1,000 visas have been revoked since June 1 when implementation began.

“The high-risk graduate students and research scholars made ineligible under this proclamation represent a small subset of the total number of Chinese students and scholars coming to the United States,” a State Department spokeswoman said.

“We continue to welcome legitimate students and scholars from China who do not further the Chinese Communist Party’s goals of military dominance,” she said.

The State Department also accused some of the students and researchers of stealing research information from American scientists working to develop a covid-19 vaccine.

Nearly 370,000 students from China were enrolled at US Universities in 2018-19, the most of any country, pouring in income to the educational sector now laden with Coronavirus pandemic economic effects.

Winners in the ongoing Mega Millions Promo have continued to express their astonishment and appreciation to Nigeria’s caring mobile network operator, 9mobile for fulfilling its promise of rewarding customers with N1million daily cash prize and other exciting prizes. Some had initially doubted the authenticity of the promo until winners began to emerge nationwide.

One of such was when Mrs. Kolade Aminat Yetunde, an Ilorin-based businesswoman, received a text message and eventually a call from a 9mobile staff that she has won a million naira in the ongoing. According to her, “I thought that it was a scam. So, I informed my husband who put a call through to his friend who works at a 9mobile office in Ilorin. That was when I began to believe that the promo is real. I appreciate 9mobile for this promo”.

Similarly, Mr. Ishak Fatihu Idris from the Kano region was skeptical of the Mega Millions Promo and disregarded the message of his winnings at first. “I have heard terrible stories about scammers, and I have promised myself not to get involved in any shady transaction. But when I heard the promo on radio and other media platforms, I gave it a try and I am so glad that I won a million naira. I am delighted and I will always patronize 9mobile.”

Chief Tony Nnaji who lives and works in Port Harcourt visited his friend when he got a text message from 9mobile that he had won a million naira. But he did not believe. Commenting on the win, he said, “later, I rationalized that it is almost impossible that such promo will be aired on the electronic media without some form of validation. So, I went to the 9mobile experience center to confirm my doubt. I want to appreciate 9mobile for standing solidly with customers in this period of economic crunch”

Within the first month of the promocustomers have won over N29million and over 1392 smartphones across the country. The 9mobile Mega Millions Promo will run through till November 2020. It promises hourly smartphone prizes to customers who recharge a minimum of N200, a N1million win for customers who recharge N1000 or more, while a cumulative recharge of N10000 monthly throughout the duration of the promo will enable one lucky customer to walk away with the grand prize of N10million.

Chelsea star footballer, Victor Moses, has made a significant donation to support his former club, Wigan Athletic amid their financial struggles during the pandemic.

Moses played for the Latics before joining Chelsea in 2012.

The club's supporters body has confimed that the former Super Eagles player has made a significant financial contribution to the club that'll stop them from going into extinction.

Air Force officer allegedly killed by terrorists in Kaduna (photo)

Flying officer and Best Graduating Officer at the NAF Special Forces Course, Muhammad Auwal, was allegedly killed by terrorists in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna state, on Saturday, September 5.

Bulawa Bukarti, a Kano-based lawyer, shared the sad news on his Twitter handle.

''Flying Officer Muhammad Auwal is one of the latest gallant men we sadly lost to terrorists. He’s killed yesterday (5 Sep.) on duty at Birnin Gwari. He’s the Best Graduating Officer at the NAF Special Forces Course that held recently in Bauchi.

We’ve lost too many brave and promising men to the insecurity raging in our country. Govt officials and politicians must face this problem head-on. They must channel the huge sums wasted on their extravagant lifestyle to this problem and ensure every Kobo is spent transparently.''

Two Nigerian law school lecturers accused of telling lawyers not to report sexual assault because it takes two to tango

Some Twitter users have taken to the platform to accuse two Nigerian law school lecturers of telling lawyers not to report sexual assault because it takes two to tango.

Two Nigerian law school lecturers accused of telling lawyers not to report sexual assault because it takes two to tango

Actress Lolia Etomi who first made the disclosure, alleged that one of the female lecturers went on to blame female students who she accused of "baring their arms and tempting men".

She tweeted;

So one day at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, 2 senior lecturers- in a hall of over 1000+ students and other lecturers decided to give a speech to all law students- saying that they should not report incidents of rape/sexual assault, because “it takes two to tangle”.

The female lecturer supported the male lecturer, saying “we will not support you because I feel sorry for the men. Some of you ladies, your bare arms distract even me. You women are the ones tempting them. When you paint your nails, wear lipgloss etc., you are luring men.”

The highest institution of legal education in Nigeria, had lecturers telling future lawyers and victims of rape/assault, that it was their fault and not only would they not be supported, they would be punished for reporting their own rapes.

One of these lecturers was involved in a rape scandal last year. There were over 1000 + witnesses. On my, then private twitter account- I posted a simple transcript of what these lecturers told us publicly, verbatim. Nothing more or less.

Two Nigerian law school lecturers accused of telling lawyers not to report sexual assault because it takes two to tango

Following the reactions her tweets got, Lolia also alleged that she was victimized by lecturers and fellow students after she spoke up against the lecturers' comment.

She added;

This led to law school mentioning my tweets in an assembly, but as I had a different twitter pic/name, they didn’t know who was behind it. They gave a general warning about portraying NLS in a negative light in public. They did not address or denounce the problematic statements.

This man,@nwatonye- Nwachukwu Obi -took it upon himself to send voicenotes to all the law school student group chats, starting a witch-hunt to find & report me to admin, so they would expel me. He told them that if they didn’t scapegoat me, the school would fail everyone.

In the voice note (previous tweet is only one of man), he (@nwatonye) was: 1) a rape apologist 2) Slandered me to the press by reaching out to them to “denounce” verifiably true, witnessed statements due to his paranoia and cowardice. Despite knowing they would be lying.

3) Rallying a mob of students to harass me, both online and in person. 4) Even going as far as to instruct them to harass my friends. 5) Illegally circulating my information- including a picture from my, then-private Twitter account, in order to do so.

The student body president Graham Garrick Nosa John @thegarrick_who is currently studying at @durham_uni @DurhamLawSchool , and @nwatonye, then started harassing my friends, circulating pictures & false info about me. Threatening & blackmailing them to expose & denounce me.

@thegarrick_ and @nwatonye  confidently and publicly verbally abused and insulted me. Threatened & attempted to coerce multiple people. Until they found my student registration number and gave it to the law school administration, all to curry favour with them.

They did all this to support an institution that they believed was so corrupt, that it would MASS FAIL THOUSANDS of students all because of 1 tweet from one student, saying that they said, what they had actually said. Again no one addressed the problematic rape issue.

The law school issued me a query and barred me from writing my exams to become a lawyer until I wrote them an apology letter. I did not. I wrote a letter standing by my words & actions. Luckily, the law school was not competent enough to actually read my letter, so I got off.

Many students mentioned they were surprised to see me at our Call to Bar. Many assumed that I had been expelled. @thegarrick_@nwatonye spearheaded all this and wanted that outcome. Because they were vindictive, cowardly and selfish sycophants.

I never once attacked them, disrespected them the way they disrespected me or used my wide-reaching family legals connections to hurt them, their education or careers when I could have. It has been 3 years. They never apologised. They thought they got away with it.@thegarrick_ @nwatonye , I hope you’ve enjoyed yourselves. I hope you are proud of yourselves. I hope you’ve been comfortable in your lives. Because I gave you the time & grace to do the right thing, but you were callous. So hi, this isn’t over.

@nwatonyedidn’t care or even give this a second thought for 3 years, after thinking he had successfully lied on me to the press & gotten me expelled. his measly apology from today after I tweeted at him. He claims he even agreed with me at the time. That makes it worse.

This is@nwatonye. What an ironic yearbook quote.

This is @thegarrick_, student body president & corrupt Chief Bully. Now doing a Masters in Law at @durham_uni @DurhamLawSchool, where he has finessed his way into more leadership positions like LLM Class Rep, Open Day Ambassador, PGT Advisory Board Member, Postgrad Ambassador.

@thegarrick_you really integrated into the system well. People like you are the reason it is the way it is and you ought to be deeply ashamed of yourself.
