Police in Ogun rescue six year old girl after her stepmother allegedly tortured her using nails

Police in Ogun rescue six year old girl after her stepmother allegedly tortured her using nails
The police in Ogun State have rescued a six-year-old girl after her stepmother, Abimbola, allegedly tortured her with nails at their residence in Ijagba, in the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.

The little girl's plight was brought to the notice of the police by a non-governmental organization, Olanrewaju Omo-George Foundation, after it received reports from concerned neighbors about the horrific treatment her father Taiwo Onabanjo and his new wife meted out on the minor. The foundation’s supervisor, Christopher Onuegbu, said immediately the report was received, a complaint was made at the Sagamu police division and the couple were immediately arrested.

“We received a distress call that a stepmother had been torturing a child with nails. The stepmother used the nails to inflict injuries on her head and body, and we asked for the location and the person said it was in Ijagba, Sagamu. I informed our secretary to report the incident at the Sagamu Police Station, where two policewomen accompanied our secretary to the address and arrested the stepmother.
During the arrest, the neighbours came out and testified that the woman had been maltreating the child. A call was made to the husband and when he came, he supported his wife and the Divisional Police Officer arrested him. The child has been running a temperature because she was brutalised from head to toe; we took her to the Skylack Medical Hospital, where she is receiving treatment.
We are trying to locate the biological mother of the child, who is said to be in Ijebu-Igbo. Our foundation has decided to settle the victim’s medical bills and sponsor her education until she graduates from higher institution.”Onuegbu said

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the husband had been released. He added that the stepmother is being held and interrogated at the Sagamu Divisional Police headquarters while the victim has been taken to hospital for medical attention.

He said the suspect would be charged to court once the investigation is concluded.

Nigerian students are now beggars in the UK- Abike Dabiri-Erewa asks NDDC to pay Nigerian students their scholarship allowances and fees
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NIDCOM, has appealed to the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC to pay the allowances, tuition, and other incentives of students on its scholarship scheme in the United Kingdom as most of them have turned to beggars on the streets of the UK.

During the recent National Assembly probe of the NDDC, it was revealed that Nigerian students awarded scholarships to some universities in the United Kingdom, have been abandoned by the commission as they have not received a dime in allowance or school fees from the commission. Many of the students who came out to complain, said the commission has refused to respond to all emails sent to them appealing for their fees to be paid or allowances released.

In a statement released on Tuesday, July 28 by the NIDCOM spokesperson Gabriel Odu, Dabiri-Erewa appealed to the NDDC management team to as a matter of urgency, release the funds appropriated for the scholarship programme of these students. Dabiri-Erewa made reference to a letter written to the Minister of the Niger Delta, Sen. Godswill Akpabio,  dated June 18, 2020, drawing attention to the plight of the students, and urging the NDDC to pay them.

The statement in part reads
''At the moment there have been persistent calls by the Students for urgent intervention. While deadline for payment of the fees of some of the students have expired or about to expire , non payment of their allowances have turned many of them to virtually become beggars''

21-yr-old up and coming actress accuses a producer of demanding sex for roles

21-yr-old up and coming actress accuses a producer of demanding sex for roles
A 21-year-old up and coming actress has claimed that a movie producer demanded sex from her for a role and when she refused, he informed her he would be giving the role to someone else.

The Twitter user, who gave her name simply as Faith, said she met the producer on Instagram and told him of her passion and he promised to help her grow.

She added that he called her for a role one day and when she got there, she was given a script. She discovered it was the lead role and she was excited.

However, as she began rehearsing, the producer, who she said is in his 40s, allegedly started asking her to date him and promising to help her advance in her career if she does.

She said she refused so he informed her that he will have to call another woman to play the role.

She questioned why it has to be this way and advocated for people to be given roles based on their talents, not because they agreed to date producers.

Coronavirus has exposed years of leadership failure in Nigeria - Peter Obi

Coronavirus has exposed years of leadership failure in Nigeria - Peter Obi
Former Governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi has stated that Coronavirus has exposed years of leadership failure in Nigeria.

The former Vice Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) said this at a virtual event tagged ‘The Global Economy: Adapting to the New Normal' and organised by Bridge Leadership Foundation.

Obi who stated that the process of selecting leaders in the country is weak, added that recent events in the country shows ”lunatics have taken over the asylum”.

He said;

“COVID-19 offered us an opportunity to see the result of cumulative failure of leadership over the years. It is time for persons who are competent to lead.
“Nigeria has time to realise that we now have to change the process of selecting our leaders because it is weak. If you look at what has been happening in Nigeria in recent times, we are now in a situation where the lunatics have taken over the asylum and they must leave now – all of us, including myself. It is time to get people who have ideas and everything.
“A situation where we have people in leadership who are incapable of learning new things has to change. Nigeria don’t need leadership who are trapped in the processes of yesterday, we want those who have something to offer for tomorrow.
“In a society where people have excelled, they have achieved such because they have being given an opportunity. When we are talking about the new normal, we also have to look at our environment. We need to start thinking differently about those that govern us also.”

Married man explains why he doesn't get involved in arguments about gender equality and headship in marriage

Married man explains why he doesn

A married man has explained why he doesn't get involved in the constant Twitter arguments about gender equality and headship in a marriage.

@Ayo__Aroloye said it's mainly single people who fight over superiority in a marriage and married people don't because experience has taught them that reality is different from people's idea about marriage.

He tweeted: "If you notice, I don’t follow you people to drag all these “gender equality” and “the man is the head” yarns. In fact, I think it is mainly the single people that are fighting this battle. The truth is, the married men already know who is boss. They just won’t tell you.

"This morning, at about 5.30am I heard my son make all those funny baby noises from his crib. Apparently he had woken up a bit earlier than usual (usually wakes up at about 8-9am). Forming husband material, I crept up from the bed on my way to go and carry him and play small.

"Just before I got to the crib, I heard a loud voice from behind me “Go and sleep!” It was my wife. I managed to squeeze out a split second to look my son in the eye. He looked betrayed but that’s his own business. I ran back to the bed, covered myself and pretended to sleep.

"As I tried to sleep, I kept asking myself some questions “Did my wife, omo jesu, omo jeje, just charass me, a street boy, awon eyan makanaki?” I can’t even shout for help, the neighbors will think I’m the one inflicting pain not knowing I’m the one going through severe pain."

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, had in a letter addressed to Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, which was leaked to newsmen by a youth group in Abuja on Sunday, July 26, named Manager as one of the lawmakers who got six NDDC contracts. The Executive Director Projects of the agency, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, had accused the Senator of getting contracts from the Commission.

That ever since then I have never visited NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt or any of its branches.
That NDDC never awarded any contract to any company owned by me. That I do not know of any company owned by me, that has ever gone into bidding for government jobs anywhere in the world. (This may come to many as a surprise but that is the gospel truth).”
'Those who are alleging to defame me must be aware of the consequences.
That in the interest of the gullible innocent public, the authors led by the said Dr. Cairo Ojougboh or any other person should provide among other things the following please;
(A) detailed description of the said jobs. (B) names of companies (C) payments already made and to whom? (D) job performance (E) The Directors as they appear in the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
That I sincerely in the name God request for proof of evidence. This is a very simple minimum demand.”
