Four more COVID19 patients discharged in Edo state, one death recorded

Four more COVID-19 patients have been discharged in Edo state.

This was disclosed by the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, on his Twitter handle this morning. He also said that one more COVID-19 death has been recorded in the state.

''We have discharged 4 more patients from #COVID19 isolation centres in the state, bringing the total number of those discharged to 39. However, the total number of deaths have risen to 6. Our frontline workers, as always, remain key to our successes. Stay safe. Stay at home.'' he tweeted

Imo assembly passes law which stops former governors and speakers from receiving pension and other entitlements

Imo state House of assembly on Thursday May 21, repealed the 2007 pension act which effectively stripped ex- governors, their deputies and ex- speakers of their pensions and other entitlements. 

Some lawmakers who spoke in support of the executive bill titled “A bill for a law to repeal the Imo State governors and Speakers Pension and privileges law No 5 of 2007 (as amended)”, agreed that it was necessary to do away with pensions of ex-governors and speakers, to make funds available for other developmental projects in the state. 

The speaker of the house of assembly Chiji Collins who also shared his view about the bill, said that though they are the first victims of the law, the sacrifice is necessary for the development of the state. 

The Sun reported that that the bill was promptly passed into law after the lawmakers debated on it, and now awaits the consent of the governor.

Messi Is Everyone’s Dream But He Wont Leave Barcelona – Moratti

Former Inter president Massimo Moratti said Lionel Messi will not leave Barcelona, while he also discussed the future of Nerazzurri star Lautaro Martinez.
Messi has been linked to Inter since Moratti said the record six-time Ballon d’Or winner joining the Serie A club was not a “forbidden dream”.

Barca superstar Messi is contracted to the La Liga champions until 2021 but his future is far from certain at Camp Nou, where he has clashed with board members this season as the club has faced several turbulent moments inside the boardroom.

Messi has flourished again this season despite the off-the-field unrest, firing 24 goals in 31 matches for the Catalan side.

With Messi leading the way, Barca currently sit atop La Liga, maintaining a lead over rivals Real Madrid atop the table with the Spanish league suspended due to the coronavirus.

And, while Messi’s future is always a talking point, Moratti expects him to remain with Barca for the foreseeable future.

“Messi is everyone’s dream, but he won’t move from Barcelona. He’s still the best player there is,” Moratti told Gr Parlamento.

Former United defender Ferdinand told Radio 5 Live’s 606 Savage Social podcast when asked who he would be looking to bring in:

“Sancho, Koulibaly and Saul Niguez.

“I think Harry Kane’s been linked but if I’m pushing for an attacking player I’d still go for Sancho, he gives you that little bit of imagination and I think he gives you that little bit of spice that they haven’t got at the moment.”

Ferdinand added:

“Yes, I would [give Sancho No 7], he’s that type of character.

“He’s got an arrogance about him, it’s what you want on a football pitch, they’d embrace that.

“So yes, I’d give it to him and put that pressure right on his shoulders!”

Hazard Admits He Needs More Time To Recover From Ankle Surgery

Eden Hazard has been back in training with his Real Madrid team-mates, but he admits he needs more work before he will be ready to return to match action.
The Belgium international underwent ankle surgery in early March after fracturing his right fibula in a La Liga defeat to Levante.

Hazard travelled to the USA for his surgery, as the ankle injury was similar to the sort of injuries often suffered by NBA players, and it was reported doctors there had more experience of administering such treatment.

La Liga teams have returned to training in groups of 10 this week, with league president Javier Tebas targeting June 12 as the date when the season can be resumed.

“I feel very good to be back on the pitch working with my team-mates,” Hazard told Madrid’s official website after Monday’s session.

“Now we have to wait for the matches to come, but I’m very happy. After two months away I need more physical work and more ball work. I just want to be ready for the next game.

“Now the training is better, we can train the way we like to. The first week was a bit strange, but now we can train again in groups and also attacking the goal.

“We just want to be all together and try to work as a group”.

Liverpool Not Winning Premier League Title Would Be Unfair – Jurgen Klopp Speaks Out

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp says it would be “unfair” to deny his side the Premier League title should the rest of the season be cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Reds hold a 25-point lead over closest rivals Manchester City and are on the cusp of a first top-flight triumph in 30 years.

The Covid-19 outbreak put their title march on pause in March, however, and there were calls for the rest of the season to be scrapped without declaring winners.

On Monday, all 20 Premier League teams agreed to step up their return to training as they hope to start playing again from June 12, though there is no guarantee it will be safe for games to go ahead by then.

And Klopp feels it would have been wrong to bring a premature end to the campaign and deprive Liverpool of the glory.

He said at a talk at the DFB Academy:

“There was talk that people wanted to declare the season null and void. So you thought: ‘Huh? We have played 76 percent of the season and you just want to delete the thing?’

“That would have been something that I personally would find unfair, to just say that it didn’t happen.

“We are first in the home table, we are first in the away table. It is a season in which we should become champions.

“Dealing with the crisis is the most important thing. But that doesn’t mean that certain things are of no importance at all just because they are less important.

“I think there are worse things in life than not becoming champions. A lot of people around us have big problems. People die, it always happens, but at the moment because of a virus that we all didn’t know and for which nobody could be prepared.

“We cannot prepare for everything, but also have to react often. That’s the biggest part of my life, reacting to things that I didn’t expect.”

WHO Begins Clinical Trial Of Coronavirus Vaccine In Nigeria

The World Health Organization (WHO) has begun a clinical trial of available drugs/vaccines for COVID-19 in Nigeria.
This was confirmed by the Country Representative of the WHO, Fiona Braka, while speaking during the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja on Monday.

Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Ogun, Kaduna and Sokoto states had recently signed up to participate in the solidarity trial.

“The solidarity trial is a large multi-country effort that is going on across several countries globally. We are picking up on that trial in Nigeria. Some states have started while some are yet to start.

“These are not new drugs that we are trying but drugs that we already have available but are simply being repurposed for the intention of determining their effect on Coronavirus.

“We will keep you updated on what the timeline for the vaccine will look like. But we are still early in the process in collection of the data,”

Braka said.

Nigeria now has over 6,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country.

On Monday night, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced 216 new cases, bringing the tally to 6,175.

Of that number, Lagos has the highest number with 2,624, Kano has 842 and Abuja 422.
