Every effort will be made to identify Nigerian hooligans who attacked Nigerian Embassy in Indonesia - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama

Geoffrey Onyeama, Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, has condemned the violent protest staged by some Nigerians at the Nigerian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia. 

 

Angry Nigerians living in the country on Thursday, June 25, staged a protest at the Embassy over the alleged discrimination and targeted raids by Indonesian immigration officers. They accused Nigerian officials of not protecting them from the alleged injustice meted on them by Indonesian immigration officers. The protest came a day after a Nigerian man, Chike, plunged to his death while running from Immigration officers. Read here.

The protesters vandalized the gate leading to the Embassy and also some cars in the premises.

Reacting to the incident, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said efforts will be made to identify and punish the ''Hooligans'' that carried out the attacks on the high commission. 

''Absolutely deplorable and disgraceful criminal behaviour by Nigerian hooligans who without justification attacked the Nigerian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Every effort will be made to identify them and see they are severely punished. Totally unacceptable behaviour.'' he tweeted

Union Bank Customers Win N40 Million in the UnionKorrect Draw!

During the recent draw, 80 customers were awarded N100,000 each; 16 customers, N500,000 each and 4 customers won the grand prize of N1million each in the UnionKorrect Regular category. In the UnionKorrect Exclusive category, 15 customers won N500,000 each, four customers won N1million each and one customer won the grand prize of N3million. Finally, the Bank also rewarded 200 customers with N10,000 each, 24 customers with N20,000 each, and the grand prize of N100,000 was won by one customer for saving in their UnionKorrect DeiDei accounts.

Speaking concerning the draw, the Head of Retail Deposits at Union Bank, John Obichie, said:

“Union Bank is pleased to support our customers’ ambitions and enable their success through initiatives like this. Our UnionKorrect accounts were introduced in response to the need to work with our customers towards achieving their future goals, and to reward them for being consistent with their saving habits.”

Since 2015 when the UnionKorrect accounts were launched, almost N380million has been won by 2,080 Union Bank customers in several draws held across the country.

43 Defiles Own 3 Year Old Daughter In Onitsha

A 43-year-old man from Ikeduru- Ogwah, Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo state, Mr Ikechukwu Ekenta has allegedly raped his daughter, Kamsiyochukwu Ekenta who is three years and ten months old. It was gathered that the girl was defiled on the 28th of April the same day her mother put to bed with another child, but her mother who discovered the act was prevailed upon by the parents of her husband not to report the incident. Narrating her ordeal, little Kamsimyochukwu who was rescued by the commissioner for Women and children welfare, Mrs Ndidi Mezue on a tipoff said, “my daddy put his ‘komkom’ (Penis) inside my bombom and it was paining me.” Speaking at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka, the alleged rapist Mr Ikechukwu Ekenta said that he was carried away, blaming his action on evil spirit which pushed him to engage in the act. He said whenever the spirit came, he will start behaving abnormally and that very day, he used his finger to defile the girl as the urge came. While explaining what she encountered on her return from hospital, the wife of the alleged rapist, Mrs Uzoamaka Ekenta said she noticed sharp pain from her child while bathing her and on enquiry, discovered that her husband had defiled her. Mrs Ekenta said she hurridly asked her husband what transpired and he admitted committing the crime and took the girl to hospital where it was noticed that he used his penis instead of his hands as he claimed. She stated that she complained to the parents of her husband but they threatened to deal with her if she dares tell anyone, until the whistle blower came to her aid last saturday. Mezue described the act as abominable and condemnable in all ramifications, lamenting that the child was still in pains. “I was alerted by an anonymous source. On receiving the information we rushed to the residence of the rapist at 33 area near Onitsha and apprehended him together with the help of the men of Department of State Services. He will face the full weight of the law,” She said.

Oluwo Of Iwo Faces Dethronement After His Criminal Past For Fraud In 1999 Emerges

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, is facing one of his toughest times on the throne as his subjects have not only turned against him but also demanded his immediate dethronement over various infractions, SR reports.

In a letter to the Osun State Government dated June 17, 2020, the Association of Iwoland Indigenes in Diaspora through their lawyer, Peter Adeosun, raised a number of allegations against the monarch, calling for his removal for gross abuse of office.

They said Oba Akanbi’s character did not befit a person of his status and caliber as he always moved around with armed thugs, miscreants, and hoodlums to harass, intimidate, molest and attack persons whom he perceives as enemies.

“Your Excellency, it is our brief as evidenced by various correspondences made available to us by our clients that Oluwo Abdulrasheed Akanbi has been conducting himself in manners which are antithetical to that of a monarch in any clime and very unbecoming of a Yoruba Oba.

“It is therefore disheartening to our clients that the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi (hereinafter referred to as Oba Akanbi), a Yoruba king who is supposed to be the custodian of Iwo culture and values has been misrepresenting the interest of Iwoland and this is becoming rather shameful,”

The lawyer wrote to the state governor.

Rivers Imposes N10m Fine For Weddings Against COVID-19 Guidelines

The Rivers State Government has approved COVID-19 guidelines for marriages and weddings with N10million fine to be paid by violators. The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, said the guidelines were approved by the state Executive Council in a meeting presided over by the state Governor, Nyesom Wike. He said prospective couples would be required to apply to the state governor through the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation. He said such application must be accompanied with information of the venue of the ceremony, names, addresses and phones numbers of attendees to make contact tracing easy. He said henceforth, those seeking to bury their loved ones would also be expected to include names, addresses and phone numbers of those to attend such funerals in their applications. Nsirim said government would not grant approval to any application without names, addresses and phone numbers. He said marriages would not have more than 50 attendees including family members who must wear face masks and adhere strictly to social distancing of not less than two meters. According to him, while church weddings must be conducted between 9am and 12noon, traditional marriages would be conducted between 4pm and 7pm. The commissioner said venues of marriages must have provisions for running water and soap at three points and the venue decontaminated after the event. Nsirim said after wedding receptions were prohibited under the guidelines to reduce the risk of community transmission of COVID-19. He said: “All Weddings/Marraiges have an attendance limit of 50 people. The names, addresses and phone number of all attendees have mad available with the application to enable quick contact tracing if the need arises. “Soap and running water has to be kept at the entrance to the venue in not less than three places while all attendees are to wear face masks and maintain social distancing of not less than two meters. “Church weddings are to be conducted between 9am and 12noon, while traditional weddings are to be conducted between 4pm and 7pm. Reception ceremonies are not permitted. “A representative of the Ministry would be present to observe the event. A fine of N10,000,000 is to be paid by anyone that puts people at risk by breaking this regulation”

Police Seals APC National Secretariat

The Nigeria police has again sealed off the All Progressives Congress national secretariat in Abuja. Recall that the police took over the secretariat two days ago and chased out staff from their offices. The same scenario played out on Thursday morning,Naijaloaded gathered. It was observed that the Inspector General of Police ordered the police action as two patrol vehicles were stationed in front of the main entrance. This is coming few hours to the commencement of the virtual NEC meeting of the party, convened by Victor Giadom, who is laying claim to being the acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress. Recall that Giadom was on Wednesday backed by President Muhammadu Buhari, who said he will be present at the virtual meeting. The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) however, maintained it will boycott the meeting, as it will amount to, “embracing illegalities and turning a blind eye to the infractions on the constitution of the party.”

Ghanaian Government Promises To Rebuild Demolished Nigerian Embassy Staff Quarters

The Ghanaian government has promised to rebuild the demolished part of the Nigerian High Commission building. Recall that some armed men invaded the consulate last week and demolished the building which was still under construction and meant for Nigerian High Commission staff. Speaking to journalists on Thursday, June 25, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Mrs. Shirley Ayokor Botchewey said the demolished building will be restored to its original state. Botchewey further revealed that Nigeria paid for the land 20 years ago even though the High Commission could not produce the lease, land title certificate, and building permit of the land. She disclosed that a committee consisting of officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Lands Commission had been constituted to investigate the unlawful demolition of the building, while also promising that the government of Ghana would actively engage the Nigerian government at the highest level, to address the impasse and help calm tensions in both countries. The Minister said; “The Land Commission will formally inform the Osu Traditional Council that in August 2000, an offer was made to the High Commission of Nigeria, irrespective of the title of land in question. “The offer was accepted by the High Commission and payment was made accordingly that constituted a contract. “The Land Commission will proceed to issue a Land Certificate to the High Commission of Nigeria, to regularise its ownership of the property in question. “Ghana will take immediate steps to engage the Osu stool and all stakeholders on the impasse.“Ghana will ensure that the demolished building is restored to its original state as soon as possible. “The High Commission of Nigeria will take appropriate steps to obtain a building permit for the construction.”
