Nigeria records 100 new cases of COVID-19

 On Sunday, September 6, Nigeria recorded 100 new cases of COVID-19.

 

According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, Lagos recorded 39 new cases while the FCT recorded 22 new cases.

 

Other states with fresh infections include Kaduna-19 Oyo-7 Ebonyi-6 Edo-3 Katsina-1 Ekiti-1 Bauchi-1 and Nasarawa-1.

 

Nigeria now has 55,005 confirmed cases. 43,013 patients have so far been discharged with 1,057 deaths recorded.

Military fears of possible attacks by Boko Haram members in Abuja and environs

 The Nigerian Defence Headquarters says it is on red alert over reported planned attacks by Boko Haram sect members in Abuja, Nasarawa and Kogi state.

 

An intelligence report released by the Nigeria Customs Service suggests that members of the sect have erected camps in some parts of Abuja, Kogi and Nasarawa state with plans to stage an attack in these areas. Read the report here.

 

In a statement released on Sunday, September 6, the Coordinator Defence Media Operations Defence Headquarters, Major General John Enenche, said the Armed forces and other security agents are working to forestall any attacks. He also appealed to Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity accordingly.

The Defence Headquarters wish to reassure residents of FCT and other adjoining States that the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies have been on red alert to combat crime and ensure effective surveillance of the Federal Capital Territory and other States of the country.

This is imperative sequel to a purported memorandum from the Nigeria Customs Service warning its staff on a possible attack on the FCT.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria working together with other security and response agencies particularly the core intelligence agencies hereby assure the general public that preventive and preemptive intelligence are ongoing.

The general public is thus advised to go about their lawful businesses undeterred.

2. Furthermore, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies wish to assure the general public that the offensives against the common enemies of this Nation will not cease until normalcy is restored in all parts of the country.

Hence, the general public is equally enjoined to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity accordingly.''

We have spent N31 billion to fight COVID-19 in Nigeria — FG

 

The federal government has disclosed that it has already spent N31 billion in four months to fight Coronavirus in the country. 

 

According to the Accountant-General of the Federation Ahmed Idris, the amount spent so far represents 84% of the N36.3 billon public funds and donations received to respond to COVID-19 between 1st April, 2020 and 31st July, 2020. 

 

In the statement released by the  Accountant-General of the Federation in response to the Freedom of Information request dated August 10, 2020, and sent to him by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and Connected Development (CODE), it was gathered that there is now a balance of N5.9 billion from the donation.

Anthony Joshua denies dating wife of Manchester City star, Riyad Mahrez 'following allegations the pair were seen on a night out together'

 

Anthony Joshua has denied dating the estranged wife of Manchester City winger, Riyad Mahrez.

 

The British heavyweight champion, 30, sparked new relationship after he was reportedly spotted out and about with 26-year-old Rita, who has two children with Mahrez but is now separated from the footballer.

 

Reports in the Sun stated that Joshua had been 'been spotted on nights out with Rita', both in public and at the luxury pad of a mutual friend.

 

Joshua is alleged to have first met Rita in London's high-end Tape nightclub in December 2019, but 'backed away' from the situation after he found out that she was still married to the Manchester City winger. 

 

A club-goer told The Sun in December: 'Rita bumped into AJ on her way out and he invited her to join him at his table in VIP.

 

'Rita, who was with a female pal, clearly thought AJ was incredibly hot. They then spent much of the evening laughing and flirting.'

 

The source added that he didn't have a clue who she was but thought she was a pretty girl.

 

Addressing the reports, a spokesman for Joshua has vehemently denied the accusation.

 

'Anthony doesn't personally know Mrs. Mahrez and has no wish to, now or in future,' AJ's spokesman told the Sun.

 

'He's disappointed that she or people around her have tried to use his name to generate publicity.'

 

The spokesman confirmed that Joshua is single after his split from dancer Nicole Osbourne in 2016, who he has a young son with. 

 

Mahrez, 29, married Rita in a private ceremony back in August 2015 after five months of dating. 

 

 

The couple are said to be estranged, and only have minimal contact with each other after leaving their Cheshire mansion, with Rita moving into a £2million mansion in Buckinghamshire following their split.  

 

 

Any Muslim lawyer who defends convicted Kano singer has renounced Islam - Sokoto Cleric

 Chairman of Sokoto state Ulama forum of Izala, Abubakar Usman Mabera has stated that any Muslim lawyer who defends Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, the Kano singer who was convicted over an alleged blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed, has renounced Islam. 

 

Speaking over the weekend, Mabera insisted that blasphemy is a capital offence in Islam of which its punishment is death. He further averred that the death sentence cannot be pardoned since a competent court has found the singer guilty. 

 

He said; 

 

 “Any lawyer who comes out to defend him has renounced his Islamic faith”.

 

The Sokoto cleric also asked Muslims to seek God’s forgiveness because the prevailing setbacks in the country are signs of wrongdoing.

 

Mabera added; 

 

”For all indications, God is not happy with us and we have to repent because he alone is the answer to our woes."
